Easiest Way to Cook Perfect Akkaravadisal Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Akkaravadisal. Akkaravadisal also called as Akkara Adisil is a traditional Iyengar speciality. I have already posted akkaravadisal with sugar version, this recipe is Iyengar Style which uses jaggery, the recipe is also different so wanted to make a separate post, also we have Gokulashtami tomorrow so thought of posting it now. I love anything sweet so its was sure a treat for me , akkaravadisal is always my.

Akkaravadisal should be in semi solid state unlike our usual sweet pongal.

It will tend to thicken as time proceeds.

Switch off the flame, add cardamom powder, saffron soaked.

You can have Akkaravadisal using 7 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Akkaravadisal

  1. It’s 1 litre of milk.

  2. It’s 1/4 kg of jaggery.

  3. You need 1/2 cup+2tbsp of ghee.

  4. You need 1 pinch of Camphor.

  5. You need 1/4 tsp of cardomam powder.

  6. It’s 3/4 cup of raw rice (150 g).

  7. Prepare 3 tbsp of moong dal.

Akkaravadisal / akkara adisal is similar to sakkarai pongal.

I have never tried this at home, but have tasted in SRC mess when I was staying in hostel.

It was oozing with ghee and yummy.

After that I haven't tasted or tried to make at home.

Akkaravadisal step by step

  1. Wash 3/4cup raw rice along with 3tbsp moong dal. In a heavy bottomed vessel add 1 litre milk. Am using Bronze pot to make akkaravadisal. Preparing Akkaravadisal in bronze vessel gives unique taste. Add washed rice and moong dal..

  2. Cook on low heat, stirring frequently, until rice and Dal becomes mushy. After 40 minutes rice and dal mashed completely. Add 1/4kg of jaggery, stir it continuosly. Add 1/4cup ghee and stir well. Add 1/4tsp cardamom powder, pinch of edible camphor..

  3. Heat a pan with 1/4 cup ghee. Add 7-10 cashews and roast. Now add roasted cashews along with ghee in the Akkaravadisal and mix well. Add 2 tbsp ghee and switch off the flame. Now our Super Creamy Akkaravadisal is ready..
