Easiest Way to Best Delicious Masala upma Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Masala upma. A very simple recipe that can be made in very less time with very few ingredients. Chop the onions, green chillies and tomatoes finely. Soak the gram dal for half-an-hour.

It's easy to digest, filling and wholesome too.

Traditionally, it's made by sautéing semolina with ghee, seasoning and adding water.

One of the specialities of this place was the masala upma which my husband often had!

You can cook Masala upma using 14 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Masala upma

  1. It’s 1 cup of semolina (suji).

  2. Prepare 1 of tomato.

  3. It’s 1 of onion.

  4. It’s 1 of green chilli.

  5. Prepare 1 tsp of mustard seeds.

  6. It’s 1 tsp of cumin seeds.

  7. It’s 1 tsp of turmeric powder.

  8. Prepare 1/2 cup of coriander leaves.

  9. You need 4-5 of curry leaves.

  10. It’s 1/2 cup of peanuts.

  11. It’s 2 tbsp of oil.

  12. You need 1 tbsp of salt adjust as per taste.

  13. Prepare 1/2 of lemon juice.

  14. Prepare 3 cups of water.

Upma was a constant fixture in my mother's house as it is in million's of other Indian households.

But my mother made it plain or sometimes with vegetables, but never with masala in it other than the usual seasoning ingredients like mustard, curry leaves.

Water to rava ratio and oil + ghee decides the texture and softness of upma.

Rolled oats are best to make oats upma as they do not turn mushy.

Masala upma step by step

  1. First chopped onion,green chilli, tomato, and coriander leaves..

  2. Next take a pan and roast suji till it starts fragrant and looks crispy.Dont make it brown,and when it is done take out in a bowl and in same pan roast peanut and keep aside to get cool and when it is cool remove the skin of peanut..

  3. Next in a same pan add 2 tbsp oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and when it starts splutter add onion and green chilli saute them till onion gets soft and next add chopped tomatoes,turmeric and salt let it gets cooked fully when tomatoes u find cooked nicely with spices add peanuts and coriander leaves and peanuts..

  4. Next add 3 cups of water bring it to boil and when u find it starts boiling make gas stove on medium flame and add lemon juice and start adding suji slowly by continues stirring so that there will be no lumps and then keep on low flame and cover the lid and keep for atleast 10 minutes and your delicious masala upma is ready enjoy this healthy breakfast with less oil and less masala but yummy..

Vegetables will enhance the nutrition & taste of the oats upma.
