Recipe: Yummy Vendakai theeyal Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Vendakai theeyal. A typical kerala recipe with roasted and ground coconut paste. As theeyal is included in traditional sadya dish, it is made of different vegetables like onion, raw mango, vendakka / okra, potato etc. Some common theeyal recipes are ulli theeyal, vendakka theeyal, kaipakka theeyal and like so.

Vendakka Theeyal is a great vegetarian curried dish, made from a lip-smacking spiced and roasted coconut paste.

The flavours of coconut and spices along with a sour undertone make the gravy so tasty.

To be served hot with rice.

You can cook Vendakai theeyal using 23 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Vendakai theeyal

  1. Prepare of For grinding.

  2. Prepare 1/2 cup of Coconut.

  3. You need 10 of Shallots.

  4. It’s 1 of Green chilli.

  5. Prepare 1 of Red chilli.

  6. It’s 10 pods of Garlic.

  7. Prepare 3 tsp of Coriander seeds.

  8. You need 1 tsp of Chana dhal.

  9. Prepare 1 tsp of Urad dhal.

  10. It’s 1 tsp of Jeera.

  11. Prepare 1/2 tsp of Pepper.

  12. You need of For gravy.

  13. Prepare 1 of Tomato.

  14. You need of Tamarind lemon sized.

  15. You need 6 of Lady’s finger.

  16. You need 1 pinch of Asafoetida.

  17. You need 1 tsp of Chilli powder.

  18. Prepare 1/2 tsp of Coriander powder.

  19. You need 1/4 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  20. Prepare of Salt as per taste.

  21. You need of For tempering.

  22. Prepare 1 tsp of Tamarind juice.

  23. You need 1/2 tsp of Fenugreek seeds.

Preparation Method : Wash and cut the okra into one inch pieces and set aside.

Squeeze the pulp, strain and set aside.

Vendakai theeyal step by step

  1. Sauté all the ingredients mentioned for grinding in a pan and let it cook and grind with water.

  2. In apa. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, shallots, garlic and sauté for a while.

  3. After sauting for a while add tomato and chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and sauté for a while.

  4. Cut lady’s finger and sauté until a beat brown.

  5. Add ground paste to the sautéed shallots garlic and tomato.

  6. After a while add sautéed lady’s finger and cook for a while.

  7. Add asafoetida and check for salt.

  8. Add tamarind juice and cook for a while.

  9. The gravy is ready to be served with steamed rice or idli and dosas.
