How to Prepare Eating on a Dime Green grams-Ndengu Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Green grams-Ndengu. How to Cook a Tasty Ndengu (Green Grams) Stew. Hello friends, today we'll get into the kitchen, and the person taking us to the kitchen is my fellow writer, mom and friend -Tricia Wanjala. Tricia is also a natural hair enthusiast - you may know her from the group 'Tricia's.

I was asked to cook green grams, which are called Ndengu, in Kiswahili.

I learned how to cook them by hanging around in friend's kitchens then used my style..

I love ndengu with rice,ugali or chapati.

You can have Green grams-Ndengu using 10 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Green grams-Ndengu

  1. Prepare 1 kg of ndengu.

  2. It’s 3 of medium tomatoes.

  3. You need 1 of red onion.

  4. Prepare 3 cloves of garlic.

  5. It’s of I green pepper.

  6. You need of Oil.

  7. It’s 1/2 tsp of tumeric.

  8. You need 1/2 tsp of pilau masala.

  9. It’s to taste of Salt.

  10. You need Bunch of coriander.

They remind me a lot about by childhood.

I like them a little mushy rather than whole.

However,if you don't like them mushy do not over boil them.

We source these beans from Makueni, Kitui, and Matuu.

Green grams-Ndengu instructions

  1. Pre boil green grams.

  2. Cut ingredients separately, the ones to be cut of course.

  3. In you saucepan, heat oil then put onions and garlic, cook till translucent.

  4. Add the green pepper, cook for like 1min then add tomatoes and cook till soft.

  5. Add all the spices, stir till they are mixed properly. Then add the ndengu stir and add a cup of water. I like mine thick but you can add more water.

  6. Cook for 10-15mins stirring to avoid it sticking on the bottom.

  7. Put off fire, add the coriander.

  8. Serve with chapati while hot.

They are tiny fresh tasting grains that have a rich creamy texture and nutty sweet taste Serve them with a side of rice or chapati.

Storage Instructions Store in a cool dry place.

However, I discovered Ndengu, which is the Kenyan-style of mung beans, also called green grams.

This greenish stew does not look very inviting, but the taste of the mung beans is wonderful!

With some red colour, it looks more delicious - and it tastes so good!
