Easiest Way to Prepare Appetizing Masala Upma with wheat rava Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Masala Upma with wheat rava. And the Upma which is made with semolina is called rava upma, sooji upma or suji ka upma. The method of cooking rava (suji) upma requires dry roasting the rava. This roasted rava is then cooked with tempered and spiced boiling water which has some green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, cashew nuts (and / or peanuts), cumin, mustard seeds.

Added some masala and now this Godhumai rava upma/pulav is our favorite.

I usually make Godhumai rava pulav in a pan and I posted that few years ago.

Busy days calls for a easy meal so these days started making it in pressure cooker and this is super quick.

You can cook Masala Upma with wheat rava using 23 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Masala Upma with wheat rava

  1. You need 1 cup of wheat rava.

  2. You need 1 tsp + 1 tsp of ghee.

  3. Prepare 1 of onion.

  4. Prepare 1 of tomato.

  5. You need 3 of green chillies.

  6. You need 1 inch of ginger.

  7. Prepare 1 of small carrot.

  8. Prepare 1 of small potato.

  9. You need 2 tbsp of french beans.

  10. You need 4-5 of mint leaves.

  11. You need 1/4 cup of coriander leaves.

  12. It’s 5-6 of curry leaves.

  13. Prepare 2 tbsp of fresh coconut.

  14. Prepare 1 tbsp of oil.

  15. You need 1 tsp of mustard seeds.

  16. It’s 1 tsp of chanadal.

  17. You need 1 tsp of urad dal.

  18. It’s 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.

  19. It’s 1 pinch of hing.

  20. You need 1 tsp of garam masala.

  21. You need 1 tsp of sugar.

  22. You need to taste of Salt.

  23. It’s 1/2 of lemon.

Once I ate this upma during my school days in a Bhajan trip to trichy in an ashram and it tasted very flavourful.

When ever I feel like having some filling breakfast, I make this wheat rava upma.

Vj likes it mixed with curd and sugar.

Masala Upma with wheat rava step by step

  1. Finely chop all the vegetables and keep ready.

  2. Now take rava in a pan add 1tsp ghee and roast on medium flame till it changes colour and becomes aromatic.. Keep aside.

  3. In the same pan add oil, mustard seeds, chanadal, urad dal and saute till golden brown and the mustard seeds splutter, add turmeric and asafoetida. Now add green chillies, ginger, curry leaves and saute…

  4. Add onion and fry till translucent, then add all the vegetables and cook till soft…

  5. Now add 3 cups water, salt, sugar, garam masala, mint leaves, coriander leaves and fresh coconut…

  6. Once the water starts to boil add the roasted rava mix well and cover and cook for 5-10 mins till the water is all gone.. Finally add 1tsp ghee and lemon juice and mix well.. Put off the flame and cover and keep for 5mins before serving…

  7. Serve hot with coconut chutney.

Karnataka has numerous breakfast item. and one such dish is Khara bath .

You can make many variations of upma by replacing Sooji(semolina) with other ingredients like Bread Upma,Vermicelli Upma,Poha ,Sabudana Upma ,Broken Wheat/Dalia upma ,rice upma ,oats upma.
