In the name Tawa Paneer, the term, Tawa, is used for a flat skillet and paneer in Indian cuisine refers to Indian Cottage Cheese.
So basically, Tawa Paneer is a lip-smacking dish made up of Indian cottage cheese and cooked in a flat skillet.
Tawa paneer masala is a simple, easy and quick dish made with paneer, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, spices & herbs.
Paneer tawa masala is mostly served in restaurants & is eaten with tandoori roti, naan or even with jeera rice.
Tawa Paneer instructions

Evenly chop the paneer into fine cubes and soak them in salt water..

Finely Chop onions, capsicum and green chillies..

Roughly chop the tomatoes..

Grind the ginger & garlic into a paste.

Add the chopped tomatoes (3 medium tomatoes) in a blender and make a smooth puree & keep aside..

Melt the butter in a skillet & add Carom seeds/Ajwain and fry them for a few seconds or till aromatic..

Add chopped onion & saute until translucent. Then add the ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chili, finely chopped capsicum/green bell pepper and saute for about 2-3 minutes..

Add kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and pav bhaji masala. If you don’t have pav bhaji masala, then add garam masala + amchur powder/dry mango powder. stir and saute for about a minute..

Add tomato puree and stir. Season it with salt keep stirring it at intervals. Saute it till you see butter releasing from the sides and the masala has thickened on low flame for approximately 10 minutes. If the tomato masala looks dry, then add 1 or 2 tbsp of water and continue to saute..

Add the paneer cubes and stir well, so that the masala coats the paneer cubes evenly. Cook the paneer for 1 to 2 minutes. then add ½ tsp crushed kasuri methi/dry fenugreek leaves. Stir very well and switch off the flame..

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve tawa paneer masala with chapatis, phulkas, naan or bread..
It also goes well with phulkas or plain parathas.
This dish does not have that usual creamy texture like paneer butter masala or paneer makhani.
For the tawa paneer - In a flat pan, heat the oil and ghee on medium heat; turn the heat to low and place the paneer.
Cook until golden brown from all sides.
Add paneer back to the gravy and turn on the stove.
