Ingredients of Coconut halwa

  1. It’s 1 of fresh coconut grated.

  2. Prepare 1 tsp of cardamon powder.

  3. It’s 1/2 liter of milk.

  4. You need 100 gm of condensed milk.

  5. You need 1 bowl of dry fruits.

  6. It’s 1/2 bowl of poppy seeds.

  7. It’s 2 tbsp of pure ghee.

  8. It’s 1 bowl of sugar.

This coconut halwa recipe was passed on from amma when I was asking for any new recipes to try for Gokulashtami.

Amma said it was her childhood favorite halwa as it was made often whenever there was excess coconut after any pooja in temples.

Coconut halwa step by step

  1. Take a pan heat the ghee.

  2. Add cardamom powder.

  3. Add grated coconut cook it on low flame.

  4. Stir well till brown add poppy seeds.

  5. Add milk stir well till the material is thick let it cook on low flame.

  6. Than add condensed milk.

  7. Keep mixing till the ghee starts to ooze out in the side of pan.

  8. Than add dry fruits chopped.

  9. Remove in a bowl.

  10. Serve hot or cool.

It is very quick to make, the only time it takes is for reducing milk otherwise very easy to.

Then immediately add the cardamom powder and coconut rice paste and keep stirring until it becomes thick and stick on the sides of the pan.

Just before turning off the flame, add ghee and mix well.

Great tasting coconut halwa is ready!!

Garnish the halwa with fried cashew and raisins.
