I think there is a difference between idiyappam and sevai.

I always make it as idiyappam - with rice flour.

My karaikudi mami gives a ready made idiyappam flour from her place when ever she visits us.

Ingredients of Tomato Sevai

  1. You need of Rice Noodles.

  2. You need of Oil.

  3. You need of Mustard seeds.

  4. It’s of Bengal Gram Dal.

  5. It’s of Urad Dal.

  6. Prepare of Medium size Onion chopped.

  7. You need of Tomatoes chopped.

  8. It’s of Green Chillies slit.

  9. You need of Curry leaves few.

  10. Prepare of Coriander leaves few.

Tomato Sevai step by step

  2. Place a saute pan in the stove. Switch on the flame. Add oil..

  3. Once the oil gets heat add mustard seeds, bengal gram dal and urad dal. Fry it..

  4. Add Onions,curry leaves and green chillies. Saute till onions becomes translucent..

  5. Then add tomatoes, turmeric powder and little salt. Mix well and add some water. Cover and cook till tomatoes becomes mushy..

  6. Add the rice noodles/ santhagai. Keep tha flame low and mix well. Check for salt. Add if needed..

  7. Garnish with coriander leaves. Now its ready to serve..

  8. Serve with peanut chutney or green coconut chutney or red coconut chutney..

To get rich flavour, add roasted cashews or peanuts.

Tomato paste can be replaced by blanched and grind ed tomato.

I prefer using tomato paste, as it gives nice colour and blend with sevai.

Let it boil till the juice become thick (like a paste).
