Hilsa fish in mustard gravy step by step

  1. Marinate the fish pieces with salt and haldi. Keep it aside for 10 min..

  2. Preparing mustard paste : in mixer we make a fine paste of red mustard seeds, Yellow mustard seed, Salt and 4 - 5 green chillies.

  3. Heat mustard oil in a Kadai till the oil changes its colour..

  4. Temper hot oil with kalonji and cook in medium flame till oil comes from the mixture..

  5. Pour mustard paste, haldi, green chillies and 1/2 cup coconut milk to the mixture and boil it in medium flame..

  6. Now add fish pieces slowly to the mixture and cook it on low flame for at least 10 min..

  7. Then add 1 tbsp of raw mustard oil over the gravy and bring it to boil..

  8. Hilda fish is ready to serve with steamed rice.

Hilsa with mustard gravy (sorshe ilish) is an authentic Bengali dish and is very easy to cook.
