Tuwo Masara (Tuo Masara): Hausa corn meal Tuwo Masara (tuwon masara) is a bolus meal indigenous to the northerners (fulanis &Hausas) in Nigerian and other parts of west Africa. I love Tuwo Masara because I can use it as a substitute for Eba and when I have left-overs…I throw it into hot oil and ! I The term tuwon masara is formed from two Hausa words; tuwo (cooked cornmeal) and masara (maize).

Tuwon masara is basically similar to sadza a popular Southern African food. *mix the corn meal and cassava flour together in a bowl and add into the boiling water Stir continuously until you get a thick and stretchy mix.just like Eba, you can add more corn meal if you want it thicker.the mixture is thick and stretchy.

  1. It’s 2 cups of maize flour.

  2. You need 1/4 cup of Rogo.

  1. Wash and dry maize..

  5. When water is boil to 80°C,form some barter with the flour by adding some water and stir/whisk well..

  6. Pour the barter into the boiling water and stir well. Allow to cook for 15 mins..

  7. Add in some powdered flour and stir/whisk well..

  8. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes..

  9. Bring it down and form into desired shape and serve with soup e.g Banga, taushe, egusi soup e. t. c.
