This is a black and white cookie recipe I've compiled together from many sources on the internet (mainly Brown Eyed Baker for the cookie, and Hemstrought's Bakery for the fondant icing) with my own additions to match what I remember from New York.

  1. In a bowl mix the ingredients for the dough and knead until homogenous.

  2. Put aside 2/3 of the dough.

  3. Add the ingredients for the black dough to the remaining 1/3 and knead.

  4. Roll out the white dough to form a rectangle.

  5. Form the black dough into a log and place it on the white dough rectangle.

  6. Wrap up black dough with white one making an even roll.

  7. Let the roll rest in the fridge for 60 minutes.

  8. Cut the roll into 1cm disks.

  9. Place the disks on a baking tray and sprinkle brown sugar on them.

  10. Bake for 15 minutes at 180°C.

Beat in the egg and vanilla.
