Welsh rarebit, a traditional British dish, is easy to make at home with a rich, creamy Cheddar cheese and beer sauce broiled over toast.

Welsh Rarebit, also known as Welsh Rabbit, but I didn't want to call it Welsh Rabbit because a lot of people would say, "Gross!

Anyone can lay a few slices of cheese on toast and melt them, but creating a thick sauce of cheese, beer and spices and then spreading it on toast creates one of the best late-night snacks I know This is Welsh rarebit, or rabbit, a traditional British dish whose name has a long and complicated history, one we will not go into here.

You can have Dewhursts' Welsh Rarebit using 7 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Dewhursts' Welsh Rarebit

  1. You need 30 grams of butter.

  2. You need 3 tbsp of milk or beer.

  3. You need 1 tsp of worcester sauce.

  4. It’s 150 grams of lancashire cheese (grated).

  5. You need 1 each of salad tomato (thinly sliced) (optional).

  6. You need 2 large of egg yolks.

  7. It’s 4 slice of bread.

Place cheese and beer in saucepan; stir until cheese melts.

Add butter, mustard and season with salt and pepper.

Place toast on a baking tray and spoon cheese mixture evenly over each slice.

Dewhursts' Welsh Rarebit instructions

  1. Preheat a grill on a high heat..

  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the milk/beer and worcester sauce and stir for a few seconds. Add the cheese and tomato and gently cook on a medium heat stirring continuously until the cheese has melted (do not boil the mixture.) Remove from the heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes before whisking in the egg yolks..

  3. Lightly toast 4 slices of bread in a toaster or under a grill and spread the rarebit over the toast. Place under a hot grill for a bout a minute or 2 and serve..
