Recipe: Yummy Naatukozhi Kuzhambu Country Chicken Curry Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Naatukozhi Kuzhambu Country Chicken Curry. In a blender add in Green Chilli, Cumin Seeds, and Curry Leaves and give a quick pulse. Spicy country chicken curry or Nattu Kozhi Kuzhambu (in Tamil) is one of the famous dishes in Sri Lanka. Despite the fact that country chicken is healthy compared to an ordinary chicken, it is a little hard to bite.

Naatu Kozhi Kuzhambu / Country Chicken Curry - with Coconu t, a yummy and spicy chicken curry prepared from fresh ground masala.

Pearl onions (Sambar Vengayam), red chilies and coriander powder are fried and blended together.

We are using this as base masala along with coconut paste.

Ingredients of Naatukozhi Kuzhambu Country Chicken Curry

  1. You need 1/2 kg of Country Chicken pieces.

  2. It’s 1 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  3. You need 1 tsp of Castor Oil.

  4. You need 1 1/2 tsp of Ginger garlic paste.

  5. Prepare 3 tsp of Sesame Oil.

  6. It’s 3 tsp of Coriander seeds.

  7. Prepare 1/4 tsp of Fennel seeds.

  8. Prepare 1 tsp of Cumin seeds.

  9. It’s 6 of Pepper corns.

  10. It’s 5 of Dry Red Chillies.

  11. You need 5 of Fenugreek seeds.

  12. You need 1/4 inch of Cinnamon stick.

  13. You need 2 of cloves.

  14. You need 2 tsp of Curry leaves.

  15. You need 10-15 of Shallots.

  16. It’s 1 of Small size Tomato roughly chopped.

  17. It’s 1/4 cup of Grated Coconut.

  18. It’s 1 of Green Chilli.

  19. Prepare to taste of Rock Salt.

  20. Prepare As needed of Water.

  21. You need 3 tsp of Coriander leaves.

  22. Prepare of For Tempering.

  23. It’s 1 tsp of Coconut Oil or Sunflower Oil.

  24. It’s 1/4 tsp of Mustard seeds.

  25. Prepare 5 of Shallots roughly chopped.

  26. It’s 2 tsp of Curry leaves.

Authentic naatu kozhi kuzhambu (Country chicken gravy) is a tasty treat my MIL makes if someone sneezes at home.

In our villages, they still believe this gravy to be a cold and cough treating food and an energy booster!

This curry is also called as nattu kozhi kuzhambu / naattu kozhi kulambu / nadan kozhi curry / village style chicken curry / chicken kulambu recipe and like so.

Country chicken / nattu kozhi / house chicken is the term used to refer the chickens which have been raised in the villages.

Naatukozhi Kuzhambu Country Chicken Curry instructions

  1. Wash the chicken pieces twice by adding some turmeric powder..

  2. In a pressure cooker, add chicken pieces, 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste and castor oil. Cover and cook for 7 whistles..

  3. Open the cooker lid once the pressure goes off..

  4. In a kadai, add 1 tsp Sesame Oil, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, red chillies, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, cloves and curry leaves. Fry it in medium flame till we get a nice aroma from it or till it turns light brown colour. Transfer to a bowl. Cool it completely..

  5. In the same kadai, add 2 tsp Sesame Oil and shallots. Saute in medium flame till it becomes translucent. And then add tomatoes and saute for 5 mins. Transfer to another bowl. Cool it completely..

  6. Add the 1st roasted items in a mixie grind it to a powder. Then add the onion tomato mixture, grated coconut,1/2 tsp Turmeric powder, green chilli and grind to a smooth paste by adding water gradually..

  7. In a currypan, add the cooked chicken along with that water and add the ground paste. Add salt and required water. Mix well. Cover with a lid and cook till raw smell goes off and chicken gets cooked..

  8. In a tadka pan, add the ingredients given for tempering. Saute till shallots becomes translucent. Add this to the Kuzhambu or Curry. Mix well..

  9. Garnish with coriander leaves. Now its ready to serve hot with rice, idli and dosa..

Add in chopped shallots, curry leaves, ginger garlic paste and saute for a couple of mins.

Add in salt, add the spice powders and saute for a min.

Add the chicken in and mix well with the masala.
