How to Winter At Home KANIKA (Sweet Rice) Delicious, fresh and tasty.

KANIKA (Sweet Rice). Kanika is a sweet pulao or sweet rice made with ghee, basmati rice and sugar, and dry fruits. The dish is mildly sweet and extremely flavorful from the whole spices like cardamom, clove, and cinnamon. Kanika takes the color of yellow from the turmeric.

You can cook KANIKA (Sweet Rice) using 10 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of KANIKA (Sweet Rice)

  1. You need 1 cup of basmati rice.

  2. You need 1/2 cup of Sugar.

  3. You need 2 cups of Water.

  4. You need 4 tsp of Desi ghee.

  5. You need 2 of Bay leaves.

  6. Prepare As required of Chopped dry fruits like cashews and raisins.

  7. Prepare Few of Cloves, cinnamon stick and cardamons.

  8. It’s Few of Pepper corns.

  9. It’s 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  10. Prepare For garnishing of Pomegranate seeds and grated coconut.

It is a perfect example of spiced and sweet recipe.

The presence of spices gives the recipe a special flavour.

Kanika is a mildly sweet fragrant rice flavored with some spices and ghee (the clarified butter) loaded with cashew nuts and raisins and is colored with the turmeric.

The basic feature of the rice is the separated well puffed grains embellished with a perfect shine from the Ghee.

KANIKA (Sweet Rice) instructions

  1. Soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes and drain..

  2. Heat a deep pan and add 2tsp of desi ghee. Add bay leaves, cashewnuts, raisins, cloves, cardamoms, cinnamon, pepper and saute for a while..

  3. Add basmati rice and fry on a medium heat till the rice turns a little brown..

  4. Add water, turmeric powder, salt and cook for 10-15 minutes..

  5. Add sugar and remaining ghee. Cover it for 5 minutes..

  6. Finally garnish the KANIKA (Sweet Rice) with grated coconut and pomegranate seeds. Then serve it hot with the piping hot Dalma or spicy Aloo Dum.
