Ghee rice Ghee rice is a South Indian variety of rice that goes very well with dals or veg gravies or korma.

Whenever I make a simple homely dal, then at times I also make ghee rice to pair with the dal.

You can have Ghee Rice using 17 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Ghee Rice

  1. You need 2 cup of Basmati/Jeerakasala Rice.

  2. It’s 3 tbsp of Ghee.

  3. Prepare 1 medium of Sliced Onion.

  4. You need 2 of Green Chillies.

  5. Prepare 1 1/2 tsp of Ginger-Garlic Paste (Optional).

  6. It’s 4 of Cardamom.

  7. It’s 2 piece of Cinnamon.

  8. It’s 4 of Cloves.

  9. You need 2 of Bay Leaves.

  10. It’s 6 of Crushed Pepper.

  11. You need 2 pinch of Fennel Seeds.

  12. You need 2 of Star Anise.

  13. It’s 1 pinch of Turmeric Powder.

  14. It’s 4 cup of Hot Water.

  15. Prepare 1/2 tbsp of Chopped Coriander Leaves.

  16. It’s 1/2 tbsp of Chopped Mint Leaves.

  17. You need of Salt.

Ghee Rice instructions

  1. Heat the ghee & add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, bay leaves, fennel, star anise & crushed pepper. Saute for two minutes..

  2. Add the chopped onion & sliced chillies into it. Cook till onions are translucent..

  3. This step is optional. You can skip it, if you dont want to add ginger-garlic paste to the onions, else add it. Saute..

  4. Add rice to the pan & stir fry for two minutes. Add water, salt & turmeric powder. When the water starts boiling, add the mint leaves. Close the lid & cook it till all the water is gone. Stir occasionally..

  5. When the rice is done, garnish with mint & coriander leaves..
