How to Royal Perfect Steamed Rohu / Bhapa Rui Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Steamed Rohu / Bhapa Rui. To make Steamed Rohu you will definitely need rohu fish or rui maach. Besides that, you will need turmeric powder and salt. Secondly, you will need green chilies, poppy seeds, mustard seeds, and some desiccated coconut.

It is steamed, with minimum of spices and helps retain the flavor and goodness of the fish intact while cooking.

This 'Bhapa Rui' (Steamed Rohu) is a super simple and super easy tasty recipe from my Maa's kitchen.

We cook this quite often as it takes very less time and results to an awesome tasty fish curry.

You can cook Steamed Rohu / Bhapa Rui using 15 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Steamed Rohu / Bhapa Rui

  1. Prepare 7 pieces of - Rui/Rohu Fish.

  2. It’s of To fry the Fishes -.

  3. It’s 1/2 tsp of - Turmeric Powder.

  4. You need to taste of Salt.

  5. It’s 1 tbsp of - Mustard oil.

  6. You need of To make the steamed Rui/Rohu -.

  7. Prepare 2 tbsp of - Black Mustard seeds.

  8. Prepare 2 tbsp of - Poppy seeds.

  9. You need 5-6 of - Green chillies.

  10. It’s to taste of Salt.

  11. Prepare 1/2 tsp of - Turmeric Powder.

  12. It’s 1/2 tsp of - Chili powder.

  13. It’s 1 tbsp of - Curd.

  14. Prepare 2 tbsp of - Mustard oil.

  15. You need 1/2 cup of - Lukewarm water.

This requires very few ingredients to cook and most importantly can be cooked without oil too.

Bhapa Rui or Steamed Rohu B hapa Rui or Steamed Rohu is a very traditional bengali recipe of cooking fish which is very healthy and gives an excellent taste.

Healthy in the sense that you need very less oil to cook this dish.

You need very less ingredients and very less time to cook this dish, but do not alter the recipe or ingredients.

Steamed Rohu / Bhapa Rui instructions

  1. First clean and wash fish pieces properly & pat them dry with a paper towel.Now marinate them nicely with turmeric powder and salt & keep aside for 10 minutes.Soak poppy seeds,mustard seeds,green chillies into a mixture grinder along with some salt & lukewarm water for 30 minutes.Then grind them well & make a thick mustard-poppy seeds paste..

  2. Now take a bowl,Pour the mustard-poppy seeds paste into it.Add salt,turmeric powder,chili powder,1/2 cup water & curd into the bowl & mix well all together..

  3. Heat the 1 tbsp oil on a frying pan and fry the marinated fish pieces lightly on both sides..

  4. Grease a stainless steel tiffin box with some mustard oil.Add fish pieces into the mustard-poppy seeds paste,coat them properly with mixture.Add one tbsp mustard oil and mix well.Now transfer the fish pieces and mustard-poppy seeds paste into the tiffin box,place 2-3 green chillies on the fish pieces.Drizzle 1 tbsp of mustard oil over the fish pieces and close the lid tightly..

  5. Take a wide pan,place a stand at the middle of the pan.Now place the tiffin box on the stand and then pour required water into the pan,so that the water level should cover half of the height of tiffin box. Now cover the pan with lid and steam on high heat for 5 minutes & then 15 minutes on medium heat..

  6. Switch off the flame and keep on stand by the box for few minutes.After that take out the box from the pan.Carefully open the lid and serve it hot with Rice..

Fish is a mandatory side dish in a Bengali household.
