You can cook Nigerian smoked fish stew using 8 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Nigerian smoked fish stew

  1. You need 2 of smoked fishes (smoke cat-fish) 2 fresh tomatoes, mashed.

  2. It’s 2 tablespoons of tomato paste 1 large onion sliced.

  3. Prepare 2 of garlic chopped.

  4. Prepare 2 of fresh chilies pepper.

  5. Prepare 2 of chicken cubes or (Maggi).

  6. It’s 100 ml of vegetable oil.

  7. Prepare to taste of Salt.

  8. You need 1 l of water.

Prep the fish: de-scale fish and cut into steak, add to a bowl and rinse with water and lemon juice.

Then transfer the fish to a colander to drain excess moisture.

I love this fish stew because, you can prepare it with any type of fresh fish you have, although in Lagos state, most people prefer to cook with the Obokun fish (tilapia) or Catfish, Titus(Mackerel) but any fish will do just fine.

The Nigerian Fish stew is enjoyed with most staple Nigerian food, such as, boiled rice, boiled yams, boiled and fried plantains, beans recipes and a lot more.

  1. Step 1: In a big bowl, add the mashed tomato, the tomato paste, the onion, garlic, and 1 chicken cube. Then mix well and set aside

Step 2: Wash the smoked fish with hot water and set aside.

  1. Step 3: In a cooking pot, heat the oil on medium on high heat and stir in the smoked fish with add the tomato mixture. Cook for 10 minutes.
