Chanar dalna (paneer kofta Curry). Chanar Dalna is a typical niramish (vegetarian) Bengali dish where homemade paneer balls or koftas are fried and cooked in a lightly spiced, subtly sweet gravy with potatoes. I have shared my Mother's recipe of Chanar Dalna in this post which is cooked with a fresh ground paste of cumin and ginger. Chanar dalna recipe with step by step pics.

Basically its a complex flavoured delicious curry made with fresh paneer and potatoes.

In the recipe the paneer and potatoes are fried first and then added to the gravy.

Later making some lemon size chanar balls or kofta and fry it well before adding into a spicy flavourful gravy of dalna to make it soft and fluffy.

You can cook Chanar dalna (paneer kofta Curry) using 14 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Chanar dalna (paneer kofta Curry)

  1. It’s 1 bowl of chena.

  2. You need 2 of Potatoes large.

  3. You need 2 tbsp of corn flour.

  4. It’s 1 tsp of red chilli Powder.

  5. You need 1 tbsp of coriander powder.

  6. You need 1/2 tbsp of cumin powder.

  7. You need 1 of tomato chopped.

  8. You need 1 tsp of garam masala powder.

  9. It’s 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  10. You need 1 tsp of cumin seed.

  11. You need 1 of bay leaf.

  12. You need 2-3 of green chillies.

  13. It’s To taste of salt and sugar.

Yes, you may call this dalna as chanar kofta curry or even kofta kalia recipe or chanar bora diye tarkari too in bengali language.

Dalna is a very popular form of Bengali curry and is typically prepared without onion and garlic.

Thus, it is also considered as satvik bhojon and is widely prepared in Bengali vegetarian kitchens.

Dalna, if cooked properly, can give a tough competition to any popular rich non vegetarian item like chicken, mutton or fish.

Chanar dalna (paneer kofta Curry) step by step

  1. Mash the chena and mix salt,corn flour,sugar and garam masala powder.

  2. Form balls and deep fry,keep aside.

  3. Now add oil in the pan and temper cumin seed bay leaf and green chillies.

  4. Add Potatoes and saute well adding salt and turmeric powder.

  5. Add coriander cumin powder and ginger paste saute well.

  6. Add red chilli Powder and mix.

  7. Now add water and boil.

  8. Add the fried balls and simmer.

  9. Sprinkle garam masala powder and sugar.

  10. Serve it with pullav or paratha.

I prefer Channa, however, the daughter loves Paneer and hence, Paneer er Dalna is the adjustment between us!
