Wash and soak whole tuvar dal in water for 8-10 hours. Then boil in pressure cooker till 5-6 whistles..

Wash and chop fresh garlic and grind in mixer grinder and make paste..

In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and carrom seeds. When mustard seeds crackles add asafoetida. Add ginger paste and prepared fresh garlic paste. Saute for sometimes. Add chopped onion and chopped spring onion. Saute for sometimes. Add chopped tomatoes and saute till oil seperates..

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and little water and mix well. Add boiled tuvar with water and mix well. Add salt and chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Cover with lid and cook for 5-7 minutes. Totha is ready to serve..
