This is a very simple recipe and requires very few ingredients.

Parboiled rice like ponni rice is usually used for making this rice.

If you do not have parboiled rice, then any good raw rice variety like sona masuri works well for this recipe.

  1. Prepare of Rice Toor Daal and (1/2 cup rice & 1/2 cup daal).

I came across this Arisi Paruppu Sadam in Sharmis Passions a few years back and I had tried it once.

Moong dal rice/Pasi paruppu sadam can be prepared in a jiffy and does not need much ingredients.

Arisim Paruppu Sadham - Coimbatore Style (Masala Daal Rice) instructions

  1. Soak rice and daal mixture for 10 minutes. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker, add mustard, cumin, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. After a few seconds, add onion, curry leaves, red chillies and saute till onion turns transparent..

  2. Add garlic, tomato and after 2 minutes add all the powders, water, salt and rice mixture. Pressure cook for 2 whistles and 2-5 minutes in low flame..

  3. Serve with fresh curd and scrambled egg, papadam or pickle. Enjoy!!.

This is one of the most famous dishes of Coimbatore.

My mother does not prepare this Dhal rice, I came to know of this dish only after marriage from my sister-in-law.

This is a quick fix dinner/lunch and even bachelors can prepare this as it does not.
