Turn heat to low and let cook for a few minutes until the syrup thickens.
Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice.
This was the third recipe I tried of basbousa and thankfully it turned out just the way I wanted.
The coconut flavor stood out like someone else has mentioned too which was a big plus point and it wasn;t too cakey- just the right amount of baking powder.

Mix the 2tbspn of sugar with lil water and squeeze little lemon juice, on a low heat to make a sugar syrup..pour the syrup on the baked basbousa and cut to ur desired shapes..
