Parupu Thuvayal. For Paruppu thuvayal, add a few pieces of fresh curry leaves if you have them while grinding, it will taste so much better. After grinding for thuvayal, make vagaar (mustard seeds sputtered) and some hing and one red chilli optionally. This is a very simple recipe which goes well with rice and jeera rasam.

  1. First fry the dal and chilies with cooking oil..

  2. In a mixer grinder add fried items along with coconut grind into smooth paste..

  3. Parupu thuvayal is ready to taste..

There are various version of thuvaiyal.

Growing up, Paruppu thogayal for me was a different style.

My Amma makes a version with urad dal and coconut.

Dry fry the dhal in a kadai without oil till it turns light pink.

Put it in a mixie along with chilli, garlic and salt.
