My verison of shepards pie. Shepherds pie is such a wonderful, hearty comfort food. I make it with lentils and mushrooms for my version and ground beef for my guy's. But it's a lot of work to make everything from scratch … love the idea of using frozen mashed potatoes if I'm running short on time!

This is an 'Americanized' version of that old standard, Shepherd's Pie.

You can prepare your mashed potatoes as you normally would – adding butter, milk, sour cream, whatever!

A true shepherd's pie is made with lamb while a cottage pie is made with beef.

Since the type of meat used is the only real difference in this dish, I find most have a version using beef that they call shepherd's pie even if it technically.

This version is made with a creamy curry sauce that is out of this world.

My verison of shepards pie step by step

  1. Brown ur ground beef and onion together.

  2. After meat is browned drain fat and add seasoning and gravy packet.

  3. After adding season & gravy follow instructions on gravy packet.

  4. Once meat is done turn to low and make potatoes feel free to take the time to make real potatoes i found that these work fine i always add a little milk because they come out a little to thick for my liking.

  5. While waitimg for water to boil grate ur cheddar chesse.

  6. Once potatoes are done start layering ur ingredients in appropriate size cassorole dish i ise corn u can use peas and carrot or corn peas and carrots.

  7. Top with cheddar chesse and put in 350 degree oven for about 20 mins so chesse is melted and everything heated through let cool for 5-10 mins serve and enjoy.

Topped with a heavenly layer of mashed potatoes and Parmesan.

This version of shepherd's pie calls for ground lamb, readily available in most supermarkets.

If you have a tight relationship with your butcher, ask them to grind it fresh.

This pie was actually created as a way to use up leftover lamb, probably over a century ago.

It is completely worth making even without leftover lamb.
