If you are bored of eating curd rice everyday, you can always make this Thayir semiya or curd semiya for a change. "Thayir" means curd in Tamil and "semiya" means vermicelli.

Thayir(Curd/Yoghurt) semiya is a wonderful dish for Breakfast / Lunch as a substitute of curd rice.

The tempered masalas with the flavour of coriander leaves gives rich taste to this dish.

You can have Thayir Semiya (Curd Vermicelli) using 18 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Thayir Semiya (Curd Vermicelli)

  1. You need of Vermicelli.

  2. Prepare of curd.

  3. It’s of milk.

  4. It’s of pomegranate kernels.

  5. You need of Coriander leaves for garnish.

  6. Prepare of Salt as per taste.

  7. Prepare of For the tadka.

  8. It’s of mustard seeds.

  9. Prepare of chana dal.

  10. Prepare of dry red chilli powder.

  11. Prepare of piece ginger finely chopped.

  12. You need of green chillies chopped.

  13. You need of curry leaves.

  14. It’s of onion finely chopped.

  15. Prepare of hing.

  16. You need of coconut oil.

  17. It’s of peanuts (optional).

  18. Prepare of Water.

It's recommended to serve chilled, but some people like it hot.

Many kids of the present generation doesn't like curd rice.

Thayir Semiya (Curd Semiya) is vermicelli that is mixed with curd.

In a way, it can be described as curd rice, but with vermicelli instead of rice.

Thayir Semiya (Curd Vermicelli) instructions

  1. Keep water to boil in a vessel.Add salt and after it boils add the vermicelli.

  2. Let it cook for a few minutes till soft. Then drain it. After draining let it cool down. Put it in a big vessel for cooling down..

  3. In the meantime keep ingredients for tadka ready and take a tadka pan then heat it, put oil, and when it gets hot add the hing, mustard seeds and chana dal.

  4. Then after it splutters add the chopped green chillies, ginger,onion and curry leaves & dey red chilli. Sauté well for a few minutes till it turns brown. Here I have added a handful of peanuts also..

  5. Now pour this tadka over the cooked vermicelli.

  6. Then pour thick curd and milk. Put salt and mix well.Add little water if required and bring to required consistency.Then add pomegranate kernels and garnish coriander leaves..

  7. Serve immediately or chilled..

On a daily basis, we eat a lot of rice.

But curd rice is an inevitable part of a lot of people's diets.

How can we enjoy the feeling of curd rice, while at the same time cut back on rice ?

Roast vermicelli in a pan by adding little ghee until golden brown spots are visible.

Drain the water from the vermicelli using food strainer.
