Tavsali/cucumber cake. Tavsali is an eggless steamed cucumber cake from Goa. Tavsali is made with a handful of ingredients in a steamer. It has the delicate taste of cucumbers and is mildly sweet from the jaggery.
It is a traditional Goan recipe and is quite easy to prepare.
It gets its name from the konkani word Tavshe which means cucumber.

Ingredients of Tavsali/cucumber cake

Prepare 1/2 cup of rava.

Prepare 1 cup of grated cucumber.

It’s 1/4 cup of fresh /dry coconut powder.

Prepare 1/2 cup of powdered jaggery.

You need 2 tsp of green cardamom powder.

You need 6-7 of almonds finely chopped.

Prepare some of oil /ghee for greasing.

My mother in law cooks the cake on a gas stove.
Grease a pan and evenly spread the cucumber cake batter.
Tavsali/cucumber cake step by step

First dry roast rava for about 5-6 minutes..

Now in a big bowl take all dry ingredients as roasted rava,jagerry powder,cardamom powder dry coconut powder.Mix all ingredients well.

Now take grated green cucumber..

Add this grated cucumber and chopped alomnds to dry ingredientes and mix well..

Dont add any milk or liquid as cucumber water is sufficient for batter. Batter should be not very thick or thin..

Now grease the cake tin with ghee and pour cake batter.Steam it for about 15-20 minutes..

Turn off the burner and let it cool down the cake. Tavsali is ready. Cut into desire shapes. Garnish with chopped almonds..
Cake should not get burnt, so keep on checking while cooking.
I prefer to bake the cucumber cake in an OTG.
Serve this tavasali for evening tea time snacks.
Cucumber cake is cake baked of large and ripe cucumber not the small one.
This cake is baked by East Indian families also known as 'Tavsali'.
