How to Spring At Home Oats Celery Upma Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Oats Celery Upma. Oats upma is a fusion of western and Indian ingredients, which combines all health benefits of oats, fresh vegetables and Indian spices. This south Indian recipe of upma prepares a healthy dish that is suitable to be served to kids as well as heart and diabetic patients. Oats are a very healthy option and can be had in many forms.

This is exactly what I made, but, with some celery added to it for a totally different flavour.

When the seeds crackle, add the urad dal, curry leaves.

Heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.

You can cook Oats Celery Upma using 11 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Oats Celery Upma

  1. Prepare 1/2 cup of oats.

  2. It’s 1 stalk of celery sliced.

  3. Prepare 2 tbsp. of olive oil.

  4. You need 1/2 of mustard seeds.

  5. It’s 1/4 tsp. of asafoetida.

  6. Prepare 1 tsp. of urad dal (split black gram).

  7. It’s 1-2 of fresh red chilies, chopped.

  8. It’s 1 tbsp. of roasted peanuts.

  9. You need to taste of salt.

  10. Prepare 1/4 tsp. of turmeric powder.

  11. It’s of roasted peanuts, celery and chilies to garnish.

When the seeds crackle, add the urad dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves, onions,green chillies, ginger and vegetables and sauté on a medium flame till the onions turn translucent.

Add whole spices and let them sizzle.

Add in onions and fry for a min.

Add in oats and mix well.

Oats Celery Upma instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds..

  2. After it stops spluttering, add the urad dal and asafoetida. Saute till the dal changes colour..

  3. Add the sliced celery and fresh red chilies. Saute till light brown..

  4. Add the oats and continue to stir fry till light brown..

  5. Add the salt, turmeric powder and roasted peanuts..

  6. Add 1 1/2 cups water and simmer till thick..

  7. Serve, garnished with celery, chilies and roasted peanuts..

Add in boiling water and salt and mix well.

To make oats upma more flavorful try adding some chopped onion and ginger to the tempering.

Oats upma was soft and a little mushy.

I like it that way and if one wants grainy oats, reduce the quantity of water.
