Ingredients of Prawns Chow Mein

  1. Prepare 300 g of Prawns.

  2. You need 150 g of Dried Egg Noodles.

  3. It’s 2 Tablespoon of Oyster Sauce.

  4. You need 2 Teaspoon of Soya Sauce.

  5. You need 1 Teaspoon of Black Pepper.

  6. Prepare 1/2 Cup of Vegetable Stock.

  7. You need 1/2 Teaspoon of Dried Oregano.

  8. Prepare 5 Cloves of Garlic.

  9. It’s 1 Piece of Ginger.

  10. You need 1 of Medium Onion.

  11. You need 150 g of Shiitake Mushrooms.

  12. You need 3 of Baby Corn.

  13. It’s 1 Bunch of Bok Choy.

  14. You need 1 of Broccoli.

  15. You need of Other Vegetables (if any).

  16. Prepare of Oil.

  17. Prepare of Salt.

This is a bit of a cheat's way of doing a Chinese recipe, it uses stuff that you are likely to have in your store cupboard, or be able to get at a bog standard supermarket.

It is no way authentic, but is very tasty for all that.

King prawn chow mein is a delicious recipe that will go excellently with a side of mixed vegetables.

The beansprouts give it that nice refreshing crunch and the king prawns are bursting with flavour.

Prawns Chow Mein step by step

  1. Peel the prawns & take the vein out. Marinate the prawns with one teaspoon soy sauce, salt & 1/2 teaspoon pepper..

  2. Add salt & half a teaspoon of dried oregano in a pot filled with boiling water. Add egg noodles into it. Cook for about a minute or till the block becomes loose(40% cooked). Drain & set aside. You can also use fresh egg noodles..

  3. Finely chop ginger & garlic..

  4. Chop mushrooms, onion, bok choy, broccoli, baby corn or any other vegetables youre planning to use..

  5. Heat some oil & fry the prawns. Keep it aside. You can also add the prawns along with the vegetables, but if you fry it separately the prawns will have more flavour..

  6. Add one tablespoon of oil & put chopped ginger garlic into it. Saute till brown..

  7. Turn the heat to high. Add onion. Stir fry for a minute.

  8. Add mushrooms, baby corn & bok choy next. Stir fry for a minute.

  9. Add the rest of the vegetables & saute for about 30 seconds..

  10. Prepare the sauce by adding the oyster sauce, vegetable stock, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper & 1 teaspoon of soy sauce..

  11. Add noodles & pour sauce over it. Stir fry till all the water in the sauce evaporates. Add salt if needed..

  12. Add the cooked prawns. If you added it along with the vegetables ignore this step. Mix & serve hot..

Chow mein is always my love because of its simplicity and yummy.

But this version is a little bit time-consuming since I use fresh shrimp and then peel the shell by hand.

You can use frozen prawn to save the time.

If you not love roasted peanuts, you can skip it.

If you do not like shrimp or just cannot eat it, you can use chicken to replace it.
