Sambar Oats Porridge. Oats bisi bele bath recipe with step by step photos - A quick, nutritious, wholesome and delicious oats recipe that can be made for lunch or dinner. Bisi bele bath is one of traditional dishes from karnataka which is made of rice, lentils, spice powder and tamarind. It is similar to the tamil sambar sadam or the sambar rice, but is different in flavor due to the addition of marati moggu.

This is a healthy twist to it.

You can have Sambar Oats Porridge using 22 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Sambar Oats Porridge

  1. Prepare 1 cup of oats.

  2. You need 1/2 cup of boiled tuvar dal (pigeon pea lentil).

  3. Prepare 1 of drumstick, cut into 2" pieces.

  4. Prepare 1 of small carrot, cut lengthwise.

  5. It’s 4-5 of beans, cut into 2" pieces.

  6. You need 2 tbsp. of oil.

  7. It’s 1/2 tsp. of mustard seeds.

  8. It’s 1/2 tsp. of cumin seeds.

  9. You need 1/4 tsp. of asafoetida.

  10. Prepare 1 sprig of curry leaves.

  11. It’s 1 of onion, chopped.

  12. It’s 1 tsp. of ginger, grated.

  13. You need 1-2 of green chilies, chopped.

  14. You need 1/2 tsp. of pepper powder.

  15. You need to taste of salt.

  16. It’s 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder.

  17. You need 1/2 tsp. of sugar.

  18. You need 2 tbsp. of sambar powder.

  19. It’s 1 tsp. of tamarind paste mixed with 1/2 cup water.

  20. You need 8-10 of roasted cashew nuts.

  21. You need 1 tsp. of ghee.

  22. Prepare 1 tsp. of coriander leaves to garnish.

For the first recipe, I cooked up this simple Masala Oats Porridge, based on the book - The Magic Porridge Pot.

Put in sambar powder, turmeric powder, salt.

Add the oats, vegetables and simmer till oats is cooked.

Remove from heat and serve hot garnished with coriander leaves / mint leaves.

Sambar Oats Porridge step by step

  1. Boil the veggies in 1 cup water for one whistle. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds and cumin seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the asafoetida, curry leaves, onion, ginger and green chilies..

  2. Stir fry till light brown and then add the oats. Saute for 1-2 minutes on a medium flame. Add 2 cups water and simmer till it is cooked and slightly thick..

  3. Now add the boiled tuvar dal, boiled veggies, salt, turmeric powder, sugar, sambar powder, pepper powder, cashew nuts tamarind water and required quantity of water to have a porridge like consistency..

  4. Combine everything well and simmer on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes. Switch off the flame and drizzle some ghee. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve along with papadams, curd chilies and pickle..
