Recipe: Perfect Oats Idli Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Oats Idli. A quick and instant recipe of idli made with oats. This recipe is similar to the way we make Rava idli. apart from oats, I have also used rava or cream of wheat in the batter. On occasions, I do add few veggies in the batter and at times I make the idlis without any veggies.

Rava Idli and this oats idli are a stand by when I do not have stock of idli dosa batter but prefer to eat idli.

Ingredients of Oats Idli

  1. It’s 1 cup of plain oats.

  2. You need 1 tbsp of oil.

  3. Prepare 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds.

  4. It’s 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.

  5. Prepare 1/2 tsp of urad dal.

  6. It’s 1/2 tsp of chanadal.

  7. Prepare 1/2 cup of carrot (grated).

  8. Prepare 1/2 cup of rava (semolina).

  9. It’s 1 tsp of salt.

  10. You need 1 cup of curd.

  11. You need 1 tsp of coriander leaves (chopped).

  12. Prepare 1 tsp of eno (fruit salt).

Oats - This is the star ingredient of this Idli recipe.

Opt for instant oats and powder them in your mixer grinder before mixing it with other ingredients.

You can even use rolled oats for this recipe.

Semolina - Along with powdered oats, semolina is also added that enhances the texture of Oats Idli.

Oats Idli instructions

  1. Dry roast oats until they turn crisp and let them cool..

  2. Blend roasted oats to a coarse powder once they cool..

  3. Heat a pan and add 2 tsp oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, chanadal to it..

  4. Give it a stir and let the seeds crackle..

  5. Now add grated carrot and sauté for a minute..

  6. Add rava (semolina) once carrot is translucent..

  7. Roast until rava turns fragrant and let it cool!.

  8. Remove rava mixture in a deep bowl and add roasted oats powder, about 1 tsp salt, curd and mix well..

  9. Now add about 1 cup water in intervals to make a smooth batter. Add chopped coriander leaves and keep batter to soak for 10 minutes..

  10. Add eno (fruit salt) right before making idlis and mix till batter turns frothy..

  11. Grease the idli moulds with oil and add about 1½ tbsp batter..

  12. Heat the water in a steamer and steam idlis for approximate 20 minutes..

  13. Use a toothpick to check if idli cooked or not.

  14. Serve hot with chutney..
