-
Thoroughly wash green grams and place in a pressure cooker.
-
Peel and dice into small cubes the onion and carrots and add into the pressure cooker that has the green grams..
-
Add the beef cube, cumin powder, garlic powder and salt..
-
Pour all the hot water into the pressure cooker and cover with the pressure cooker cover..
-
Place the pressure cooker (without the pressure regulator weight) on your cooker and switch on to high..
-
Once the pressure starts being released from the pressure cooker tip (about 5mins), place the pressure regulator weight onto the tip..
-
Let the pressure cooker whistle 3x for al dente green grams or 4x for softer green grams (10 minutes). Switch off the cooker and transfer the pressure cooker to the sink and place it in a basin of cold water to cool it down..
-
Once the pressure regulator weight has completely released the pressure and is no longer making a sound, carefully take it off. Open the pressure cooker cover and check the green grams. I like my green grams soft not al dente..
-
At this point taste to see if the salt is to your liking. The liquid should have reduced and will be thick..
-
Wipe pressure cooker base and return to cooker. Switch it back on to high..
-
Add 1/4 cup boiling water and stir. Let it boil for 5 more minutes then reduce the heat to low (simmer).
-
Add the coconut cream and stir to mix. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. DO NOT be tempted to increase your heat at this point as the coconut cream could curdle..
-
After 10 minutes of simmering, turn off the cooker and serve your green grams. Enjoy it with chapati or rice and vegetables..
