Oats Pongal. This makes a heavy breakfast or a filling dinner on a busy day. pongal is a south Indian rice and lentil dish often made in most homes. I have already posted a khara pongal recipe here. If you are looking for healthy Indian oats recipes, this tasty oats pongal could be for you.
The Oats Ven Pongal Recipe is a simple, wholesome and full of flavor dish that is very quick and easy to make.
The Oats Pongal is made very similar to the Traditional Rice Ven Pongal, except that the cooking time is reduced.

Ingredients of Oats Pongal

It’s 1 of . Oats - 1 cup.

It’s 2 of . Moong dal - 1/4 cup.

It’s 3 of . Ginger - 1 inch.

Prepare 4 of . Cumin - 1 tsp.

Prepare 5 of . Pepper - 1 tsp.

You need 6 of . Green chilli - 1.

You need 7 of . Cashews - 10.

Prepare 8 of . Ghee - 2 tbsp + 1 tsp.

It’s 9 of . Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp.

Prepare 10 of . Salt - as needed.

Prepare 11 of . Water - 2 cups.

Prepare 12 of . Curry leaves - 10.
Pongal and oats makes a good combo as both are meant to be mushy.
I make this for lunch and have it with sambar for a filling meal… If you have chutney also for side dish, then you will never complain anything, just make it, eat hot, it's really good!

Oats Pongal step by step

- Wash moong dal and cook in pressure cooker until soft and creamy. keep this aside.

Prepare the tempering before cooking oats. Grind cumin and pepper in pestle to coarse powder. Grate the ginger and keep aside. Half the green chilli and chop nicely. Half all the cashews.

Heat ghee in small kadai add cumin and pepper powder, ginger. Once ginger starts mild crispy add cashews. Once cashews change to golden add coriander leaves and curry leaves. Keep this aside.

- Heat 2 cups of water in pan when it hot add oats, salt and cook. Once it starts cooking add cooked moong dal and cook. Stir continuously without taking hand. Once it form creamy consistency add tempering item immediately and mix nicely.

Add another tsp of ghee and mix it. Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
