Recipe: Delicious Oats Thatte Idli Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Oats Thatte Idli. steamed oatmeal idli with detailed photo and video recipe. an healthy and tasty savoury cake recipe made with powdered oats and yogurt. it is an urban fusion recipe made generally as breakfast recipe to those who cannot consume rice based idlis. it is very similar to rava idli in terms of texture and appearance and can be ideally served as it is without. I steamed in a greased steel tiffin box. They can also be steamed in dhokla plates.

To begin with Thatte Idli, wash all the ingredients and soak each separately.

Grind the urad dal first in a mixer or a grinder, into a smooth paste adding enough water.

Ingredients of Oats Thatte Idli

  1. Prepare 1 cup of oats.

  2. You need 1/3 cup of urad dal (split black gram)).

  3. It’s to taste of salt.

  4. Prepare 1 tsp. of ghee.

  5. It’s 2 tbsp. of fresh grated coconut.

  6. Prepare 2 tbsp. of coriander leaves, chopped.

  7. Prepare 1 tsp. of eno fruit salt.

  8. You need of Tempering -.

  9. Prepare 1 tbsp. of oil.

  10. It’s 1 tsp. of mustard seeds.

  11. It’s 1 tsp. of urad dal (split black gram).

  12. You need 1/4 tsp. of asafoetida.

  13. It’s 1-2 of green chilies, chopped.

  14. Prepare 1 sprig of curry leaves.

English equivalent for this mouthwatering dish could be " Plate Idly ".

If u don't have thatte idli stand,take a small round plate with rim.

I used the lid of steel storage containers.

Oats Thatte Idli instructions

  1. Soak the urad dal overnight. Then add some water and grind to a smooth paste. Keep aside..

  2. Heat 1 tsp. ghee and roast the oats for 2 minutes or till you get a nice aroma. Set aside to cool and then blend into a powder..

  3. Mix dal paste, oats powder, salt & some water to form a semi-thick batter. Keep aside..

  4. Tempering - Heat oil in a pan. Temper with mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the urad dal, asafoetida, green chilies and curry leaves. Saute for a few seconds and switch off the flame..

  5. Pour this tempering over the oats batter..

  6. Add coriander leaves & coconut. Mix well..

  7. Add eno fruit salt to the batter & give it a stir..

  8. Pour batter into a greased steel plate / tiffin box with lid..

  9. Steam for 15 min. When cool, demould it..

  10. Serve with sambar and chutney.

Grease with oil generously or line with the cloth & pour the batter.

Take the idli pot with water & boil.

Check with the back of spoon.

It is also known as Kushboo idli named after the south Indian actress Khusboo Sundar.

It is made with urad dal, poha and masuri rice.
