Bengali spicy crab curry. A spicy crab curry cooked with hot Indian spices, sliced red onion, and sliced potatoes (what we Bengalis call Chocchori Aloo.) It's best eaten with hot rice. Bengali Style Crab Curry which is called as Kakrar Jhal in Bengali is a sea food gravy prepared using crab and potatoes. Onion, ginger, garlic and dry spices are used to prepare the base of this gravy.

Kakrar Jhal or Bengali style Crab curry is the most common preparation of crab in almost every Bengali household.

Bengalis love potato & so, this crab curry contains big chunks of potato that are nicely seared with the masala & simmered with the crab!

This Kakrar Jhal is the best Bengali crab curry that you will ever have.

You can have Bengali spicy crab curry using 25 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Bengali spicy crab curry

  1. It’s 2 of medium sized crabs cut and cleaned.

  2. Prepare 3 of medium onions chopped.

  3. Prepare 2 of medium tomatoes chopped.

  4. You need 2 of medium potatoes cuts long 1 into 4 pieces.

  5. It’s 1 tsp of ginger paste.

  6. It’s 1 1/2 tsp of garlic paste.

  7. Prepare 1 tsp of green chilli paste.

  8. Prepare 1 tsp of red chilli powder.

  9. It’s 1 tsp of Kashmiri powder.

  10. It’s 1 tsp of cumin powder.

  11. Prepare 1 tsp of corriender powder.

  12. Prepare 1 tsp of garam masala powder.

  13. You need 1 tsp of turmeric powder.

  14. You need 1 tsp of black pepper.

  15. You need to taste of Salt.

  16. It’s to taste of Sugar optional.

  17. Prepare 2-3 tsp of Oil.

  18. Prepare 1 tsp of Ghee optional.

  19. Prepare of For tempering.

  20. Prepare 1 of bay leaf.

  21. Prepare 1 of red chilli.

  22. It’s 1 tsp of cumin whole.

  23. Prepare 2 of cinnamon stick 1" each.

  24. You need 4-5 of green cardamoms.

  25. You need 5-6 of cloves.

The crabs must be very fresh.

The shells must be cracked (as shown) and the crabs are broken in this manner, with the body and legs separated, for any Bengali-style crab curry.

Bengali spicy crab curry instructions

  1. Marinate cut cleaned pieces crabs with salt and turmeric for 15 mins. Then fry for 2-3 mins in medium flame each sides..

  2. In same kadai, put more oil and add tempering. A nice aroma of spices will come with sputtering sound of cumin. Then add potatoes followed by onions. Cook in low flame untill onions gets golden. Dont put salt here. Add ginger,garlic and chilli paste followed by tomatoes. Cook medium flame, adding salt and turmeric now..

  3. After putting tomatoes within 1-2 mins puts crab pieces and cook. Stir it intervally. Here put rest of spices and cook another 4-5 mins untill oil separate started. All masala will be nicely blended with crabs..

  4. Put hot water and cook high flame with lid. Add salt if required. Cook 10-15 mins untill you get thick consistency gravy. Before switch off flame add garam masala, ghee, sugar and give a nice stir for 1 min..

  5. Serve hot with steam rice..

Kakrar Jhal / Spicy Crab Curry / Bengali Style Crab Curry The hunch is to make perfect taste.

I am still in the novice stage of cooking, so I mainly cook those dishes which I have tasted so far.
