Today I am sharing a very delicious, healthy and flavorful snack from Chettinad cuisine.

Kola urundai is a very special chettinad delicacy.

Ingredients of Beetroot kola urundai

  1. Prepare 1/2 cup of chanadal.

  2. You need 1/4 cup of grated beetroot.

  3. You need 1 of onion finely chopped.

  4. Prepare 2 of green chilli.

  5. It’s 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste.

  6. You need 1/4 cup of coriander leaves finely chopped.

  7. You need 2 tbsp of grated fresh coconut.

  8. You need of Oil.

  9. Prepare to taste of Salt.

Kola urundai is a spicy meat balls prepared with minced meat usually.

It is served as snack or further used in kola urundai curry or kuzhambu.

Beetroot Kola Urundai is a very popular Chettinad snack made with lentils, spices and beetroot.

It can be had as a tea time snack or as a side dish.

Beetroot kola urundai instructions

  1. Wash and soak the chana dal for 2 hours after 2 hours drain water keep aside.

  2. Take Mixie jar add drained chanadal green chilli ginger garlic paste grind this with out adding water to a coarse paste.

  3. Take a mixing bowl to this add ground chanapaste to this add grated beetroot grated coconut salt onion and coriander leaves mix well if it is loose you can add 1 tbsp rice flour(note if the mixture is loose then u can add rice flour)now make balls out of this mixture.

  4. Heat the paniyaram pan add tsp oil now placed the shaped balls into each cavity fry until golden brown in colour flip and turn frequently.

  5. Drain the fried beetroot kola urundai in kitchen towel.yummy and crispy beetroot kola urundai is ready serve hot with coffee or tea.

Traditionally it is deep fried but I have used the paniyaram pan to fry it.

It is very easy to make and tastes delicious.

As we have not deep fried, it is healthy and guilt free.
