Ogbono is botanically called Irvingia gabonensis, a species of African trees that bear edible mango-like fruits.

The fruits are very rich in fat and protein.

When ground, ogbono is prepared as soup with other condiments and eaten with fufu or pounded yam.

You can cook Ogbono and okro soup using 6 ingredients and 2 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Ogbono and okro soup

  1. It’s of Ogbono.

  2. Prepare of Okro.

  3. Prepare of Meat.

  4. Prepare of Stockfish and dryfish.

  5. It’s of Onion, Maggi, pepper, salt, crayfish and okpei.

  6. It’s of Ugu and palm oil.

It is a typical African dish made with ground ogbono seeds but with variation depending on the locality.

Okro soup and ogbono soup are a favourite with children as well as adults.

There are several ways to make these soups including this method of adding both in one soup.

So, i am sharing this version of Okro soup with Ogbono or should i say Ogbono soup with Okro…call it anyway you want 🙂.

Ogbono and okro soup step by step

  1. Grind ogbono, cut the okro, wash the meat, stockfish and dryfish. Pound pepper, crayfish and Okpei..

  2. Cook the meat, spice with onion and Maggi. Cook for 5mins. Add stockfish, add ogbono and the grinder pepper. Add oil and cook for 5mins. Add dryfish and onto. Cook for 2mins. Taste for salt and off the fire and then add ugu and serve with semo or eba..

Some don't eat okro and some can't do without it in Ogbono soup.
