Kappa meen puttu (Tapioca fish puttu). Kappa or Tapioca is made into soft puttu and can be had as a breakfast. These traditional dishes are healthy and filling and should be included into our diets as it is steamed, gluten free and vegan. I have noticed some recipes on the internet where raw kappa or tapioca is grated and the water is squeezed out and mixed with rice flour to make.

It tastes very different from the ordinary puttu.

It goes well with just sugar or jaggery powder.

You can also mix some palm jaggery and steam cook the kappa.

Ingredients of Kappa meen puttu (Tapioca fish puttu)

  1. It’s 750 grams of Tapioca.

  2. It’s 3 tsps of rice Roasted powder.

  3. Prepare 3 cups of onion Chopped big.

  4. Prepare 2 tsps of Chopped ginger.

  5. Prepare 2 tsps of garlic chopped.

  6. Prepare 2 tsps of chilly Chopped green.

  7. Prepare 1 tsp of curry leaves Chopped.

  8. It’s 2 tsps of coriander leaves Chopped.

  9. Prepare 1 tsp of Chilly powder.

  10. It’s 3/4 tsp of pepper.

  11. Prepare 3 tbsps of coconut small pieces.

  12. It’s 3 tbsps of Capsicum Chopped.

  13. You need 1 cup of coconut Grated.

  14. It’s to taste of salt.

First put some grated coconut into the puttu maker and on top of it add some puttupodi (rice-flour) - kappa (tapioca) flour mixture.

Allow the steam to cook for about three minutes.

Now remove the puttu-maker from the top of the cooker.

Relish your Kappa Puttu ideally with fish curry or chicken curry.

Kappa meen puttu (Tapioca fish puttu) instructions

  1. Grate the  tapioca and put into water for 5 minutes. Squeeze   water and put the tapioca into a bowl,then mix with rice powder and salt..

  2. Boil fish with  little water, salt turmeric powder and little pepper powder and remove all  rib bones..

  3. Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, then add ginger, garlic, green chilly,onion and coconut pieces and saute well..

  4. Add chilly powder and pepper powder saute till raw smell removes, then add salt,capsicum, boiled fish and  mix well..

  5. In  a puttu maker put some grated coconut,then fill  with alternate layers of fish masala and tapioca mix and steam it for 5 minutes and  serve hot..

Kappa Puttu is served along with Fish Curry.

Fresh Tapioca is peeled and grated.

This is again Layered with Coconut in a cylindrical shaped pot and steamed.

Traditionally bamboo tubes are used for steaming.

Peel the skin of tapioca,cut in large cubes.
