It is traditionally celebrated with chirashi sushi, which is also known as mixed or scattered sushi.

Chirashi sushi is also referred to as bara sushi in Japanese, but what differentiates this layered sushi is that some might refer to it as a festive.

I made a sushi cake out of Chirashi Sushi thanks to my Japanese mommy friend who gave me this idea.

You can have Easy Chirashizushi Cake using 5 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Easy Chirashizushi Cake

  1. Prepare 1 1/2 of rice cooker cups' worth Sushi rice.

  2. Prepare 1 of Flaked salmon.

  3. It’s 1 of as much (to taste) White sesame seeds, shiso leaves.

  4. Prepare 1 of egg worth Usuyaki tamago (thin omelette).

  5. It’s 1 of Boiled shrimp, cooked or smoked salmon, or whatever you like.

With leftover ingredients, I made Temari Sushi using thin egg crepes (see my other examples of Temari Sushi here).

Chirashi Sushi literally means "scattered sushi" and is served in Japanese restaurants.

Each region in Japan serves a slightly different version of Chirashi Sushi with different ingredients and toppings, with most having various types of sashimi over sushi rice in a bowl.

Since it's very easy to make, it's also the most common sushi made at home.

Easy Chirashizushi Cake step by step

  1. Shred the shiso leaves. Mix the sesame weed and shredded shiso in the sushi rice, using a cutting motion so you dont crush the rice..

  2. Spread a piece of plastic wrap in a round container (a plastic container or a mold) and spread in half the sushi rice..

  3. Sprinkle in some flaked salmon..

  4. Add the rest of the sushi rice, and press down tightly with a rice paddle..

  5. Line a serving plate with some lettuce or other greens (if you have them). Invert the container of rice on top, and take the plastic wrap off..

  6. Decorate the top with whatever you like. I made little flowers made out of smoked salmon, and added usuyaki tamago (thin omelette), shrimp and daikon radish sprouts..
