Meen Peera. Meen Peera is a Kerala Style Fish Recipe with shredded coconut. I love Kerala-style fish cooked with coconut and if asked what I'd like for lunch, my first options will be either Kerala Style Fish Curry or this meen peera or meen pattichathu. You can use a variety of fish with bones for this recipe but it works especially well with sardines (also called mathi or chaala).

Meen peera "Fish stir fry with coconut" is an exclusive Kerala fish curry.

Its also an easy to prepare fish curry with minimum steps.

Usually Keralites prepare Meen peera with the small fish Anchovy (locally called as Chooda or Natholi).

Ingredients of Meen Peera

  1. Prepare 1/2 kg of fish like Kozhuva -.

  2. It’s 1 1/2 cups of Coconut scrapped -.

  3. It’s 3 of Kodumpuli -.

  4. It’s 10 of Shallots -.

  5. Prepare 10 of Garlic -.

  6. It’s 6 of Green chillies -.

  7. You need 1 tsp of chillies Crushed red -.

  8. It’s 1 tsp of Turmeric powder -.

  9. It’s 10 of Curry leaves -.

  10. You need 1 1/2 tbsps of Coconut oil -.

  11. Prepare to taste of Salt.

Some time even small sardines are also used.

Meen peera is usually served as a side dish for boiled rice.

Meen peera is a Kerala tradition fish recipe with shredded coconut.

Meen Peera step by step

  1. Clean the fish and marinate with 1/2 a lemon or 1 tbsp vinegar.after 15-20 minutes wash it with water and drain..

  2. Meanwhile split the kodumpuli and soak in 1/2 cup hot water.Crush the shallots,garlic,green chillies & curry leaves..

  3. In an earthenware/steel vessel put the crushed items,coconut scrapped,turmeric,chillies,salt and mix together with your hand..

  4. Add the fish and the kodumpuli with water to this and mix again..

  5. Heat the stove & place the vessel on it.Cover with a lid & cook on medium heat..

  6. After 5 minutes open the lid and toss the curry by holding both sides with mittens.If you r not familiar with this,just use a spoon to turn the curry.cover the lid and cook till all the water dries.adjust salt..

  7. Off the stove and add the coconut oil & close the lid.after 2 minutes remove the lid and stir with a spoon.your Meen Peera is ready to serve..

  8. U can make this with sardines,chemmen & squid rings also..
